Check out version 3!

What you can find here?

I designed this keyboard case for my own keyboard. It's not perfect (yet :P), but already thought somebody might like it so here it is :)

Keyboard case consists of:

  • Frame
Main keyboard part (walls, bottom and holding mechanisms)

  • Arduino Micro holder / Adafruit Feather 32u4 holder
Part for holding Arduino Micro (it's separately with locking mechanism as this way you can easily change your microcontroller for any you want …). Pick the one for your microcontroller or use attached OnShape link to adjust it for any other microcontroller In case you'll do that, please share it!

  • Holder Lock Bracket
Used to lock microcontroller inside the holder thou for me it holds very well even without it (it's hard to get it out even if I want to…).

  • Plate
ANSI TKL plate (means: no numpad, american layout/small enter)

  • Frame Cover
It's top part hiding gap between plate and keycaps.

In case you wonder about dimensions, go to OnShape, there is measure tool there and you can find there any measurement you are curious about.

Compatibility

This was designed for custom keyboard and I did not test this with any commercial keyboards yet. Thou most of dimensions are based on other keyboards, so there is high chance there are compatible keyboards. If you find that your keyboard is compatible, please let me know, so I can create list here for other people :) If you'd like to request compatibility, please also let me know what is problem you found and I might (or might not) adjust it.

Future

This keyboard project is very much alive, I am working on it actively for last 2 years (not only case, but whole keyboard from scratch - all electronics, firmware, case, …). I am planning to gradually improve this.

In terms of keyboard case, soon I'll have this case from aluminium and I am planning to make a video or blog about how to transform it from plastic into aluminium :).

In case you are curious about whole project, you can find more information on my GitHub.

https://github.com/vladimir-aubrecht/keyboard

Note, that I have some spare PCBs and I'd love to donate them to somebody (if you pay delivery …). More information on the GitHub.

Everything (PCB, case, firmware) is open source for non-commercial usage.

Print instructions

I printed with PLA on 15% infill and worked well with supports.

Because of supports you might struggle with precision. It’s okish for usage, but for perfect alignment you need to sandpaper residual interfaces.

Or even better use combination of PLA and BVOH for interfaces and then use water to get rid off them.
