Water Softener Salt Bag Carrier

Hauling bags of salt for a water softener is not fun. While the handles cut into the bags by the manufacturers are strong and convenient, they are very uncomfortable! This carrier simply slips into the handle of the bag and provides a comfortable grip for transporting the bags. It also works well for carrying common plastic shopping bags with handles cutouts.

I designed this model in Fusion 360 and am including the source. You can adjust the user parameters to a size that fits your hand most comfortably. After loading the model into Fusion 360, select “Change parameters” under the Modify section in the Solid workspace. You can adjust the diameter, height, finger depth, wall thickness, and slot width. Everything should adjust well if you don't go too crazy with the parameter values. I found a diameter of 40-50mm and a height of 80-100mm works well for various hand sizes.

I have included 3 diameter and height combinations in STL format if you'd rather not mess with Fusion 360. All have a 5mm slot opening and a 3mm wall thickness, which should be strong enough to last a long time.

The photos show my prints sliced with a 0.3 layer height and the new “fuzzy skin” option in PrusaSlicer 2.4. The fuzzy skin makes for a comfortable, secure grip.
